Higher education in economics, law and administration has established itself in response to the demand for specialists in these fields in the local and regional area. In 1993, our university (currently The “George Emil Palade” University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Târgu Mureș) introduced the first undergraduate major in economics: Management of the Company. In 1995 the specialization of Public Administration was founded, followed by Accounting and Management Informatics in 2000. The fruitful development of these areas and the consolidation of the teaching staff made possible, starting with the academic year 2002-2003, the joining of these three specializations into a third component of the university with term-long education under the name of The Faculty of Economics and Administration. In 2003, the Law specialization was authorized, followed by Commerce, Tourism and Services Economics in 2004, together with Finance and Banking. With the introduction of law specializations, the institution was renamed The Faculty of Economic, Legal and Administrative Sciences starting with the academic year 2005-2006. Since 2016 the first bachelor’s degree program in English was established under the name Commerce, Tourism and Services Economics

Considering the efforts towards internationalization and the permanent attempt to adapt to European trends, starting with 2018-2019 the faculty has had a new name: The Faculty of Economics and Law. Having the well-deserved reputation in the academic space of Mureș County, the Faculty of Economics and Law rediscovers its mission and values within The “George Emil Palade” University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology, keeping a hopeful eye on the continuous evolution higher learning in the fields of economics and law.

Now, all the specializations are accredited or authorized, confirming the status of „high confidence” acquired by The Petru Maior University of Târgu Mureș following the ARACIS external evaluations, prior to 2018.

Bachelor studies are also offered on a reduced attendance program, the Faculty of Economics and Law providing, through the I.F.R. Centre, education for students in Management, Accounting and Management Informatics, and Law specializations.

In 2017, because of changes in the labor market, the Public Procurement program was introduced, with a duration of one year. Approximately 300 of master’s students are currently studying in the Faculty’s Master’s degree programs.

Over 1000 students that are undergoing professional preparation and education in all these specializations, lead to special responsibilities which are taken very seriously in terms of the quality of the educational process by the academic and administrative staff of our faculty. In order to achieve its mission, our institution relies on the support and contribution of over 60 professors, both tenured and non-tenured, with significant academic and scientific experience as well as on the contribution of a young and ambitious generation of professors who represents the future of this faculty.

A significant role is attributed to the collaborators, specialists from institutions and companies in Târgu Mureș and other places in the country, such as Cluj Napoca and Bucharest, who ensure a balance of learning and practice through their assistance with the educational process.

The two departments on which our university relies: Department ED1 – Economic Sciences and Department ED2 – Law and Public Administration, constitute cores of research, affirmation and consolidation of bachelor and master specializations managed by them. The work done by members of these collectives – professors, associate professors, lecturers, assistants, researchers – is reflected in the educational process, in printed books, courses and sophisticated didactic materials, in the participation in scientific sessions and conferences, in the publication of studies and articles in magazines, in applied research, in the organization of national and international conferences, symposiums, workshops etc. This contribution is continuously growing and making its mark on the development of the Faculty as well as the University.

The teaching staff within the Faculty of Economy and Law ensures a high quality educational process through their training and research efforts, leading our undergraduate and graduate students in their professional training. Statistics prove it best, as among our alumni there is a high rate of labor market insertion on a local, national, and European scale. Access to liberal professions is of particular interest in the fields of law (lawyers, notaries public, magistrates), economics (expert accountants, financial officers, financial advisors, insolvency practitioners), and business (entrepreneurs, business managers, business advisors).

Supporting professional training, our lectures, seminars, and practical work are correlated to the demands and dynamic requirements of a society founded on knowledge. Both students and teaching staff have access to our well-structured library that displays a significant catalog of books, course materials, exercise books, and journals.

Within the Faculty of Economics and Law, our students and student societies are trained in research, socio-cultural, and sporting activities, as well as in the process of academic leadership. Such activities are stimulated by the involvement of student societies, namely: The Student’s League, the AIESEC and ELSA Associations as well as the following research circles: The “Tudor Drăganu” Administrative Law Circle, The “Jus Iuventutis” Circle, The Student’s Circle of Private Law, The “Bona Fides” Criminal Law Circle, The Tourism Circle, The Economics Circle, The Accounting Circle, and the Finance Circle.
