HISTORY OF THE FACULTY<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

Medical education in T\u00e2rgu-Mure\u015f started in 1945, as part of the Faculty of Medicine within the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca. After this new university was set up, by Decree no 407\/1945, the Faculties of philology-philosophy, law-economics, and natural sciences started their activity in Cluj, while the Faculty of Medicine was relocated in T\u00e2rgu-Mure\u015f, where it held its activities between 1945 and 1948.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In 1948, following the education reform, the Medical-Pharmaceutical Institute was established \u2013 an independent institute, comprising the following faculties: General Medicine, Paediatrics, Hygiene, Dentistry, and Pharmacy. Between 1951 and 1958, it had three Faculties: General Medicine, Paediatrics, and Pharmacy. Then, in 1958-1959, the Faculty of Paediatrics was reorganised as a department, and in 1960-1961, the Dentistry Department became active again, being set up as a Faculty in the academic year 1965-1966.<\/p>\n

During the following twenty-five years, many professors of indisputable value taught at our faculty and formed graduates who have contributed to the high reputation of the faculty, have promoted its achievements all over the world, and who represent us with great pride.
\n\nIn 1991, the Institute was given the name of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, thus becoming a prestigious university, a harmoniously constituted academic whole, with a consistently increasing number of medical specialisations, which educate and form modern professionals, prepared for the current labour market.<\/p>\n

By Decree no 800\/1965 and the Order of the Ministry of Education, the Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy of T\u00e2rgu-Mure\u015f became authorised to award the scientific title of doctor of medicine (seven professors being appointed PhD supervisors), and since then, the number of PhD supervisors, within the Doctoral School, has increased every year.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Over the years, starting with the graduation class of 1951, there have been 64 classes of graduates, and the academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine has managed, through sustained efforts, to align it to the changes and progresses registered in the field of medicine. Given its medical orientation, the Faculty of Medicine of T\u00e2rgu-Mure\u015f has formed many generations of thoroughly educated and prepared doctors.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

After 1990, major changes have occurred in the structure of the Faculty of Medicine, as well as to its programmes of study.<\/p>\n

Within the \u201cGeorge Emil Palade\u201d University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of T\u00e2rgu-Mure\u0219, the Faculty of Medicine in English starts its activity in the academic year 2019-2020, with the following undergraduate programmes of study:
1. Medicine in English \u2013 360 transferable credits
2. Medicine in English, Hamburg \u2013 360 transferable credits<\/p>\n
