Medicinal chemistry

Description

The Medical chemistry program is focused on the discovery, development, identification and interpretation of the action of biologically active compounds at the molecular level. Thus:

  • Knowledge about chemical structure-pharmacological activity relations, chemical retrosynthesis concepts and mastery of computational chemistry techniques are what makes the medicinal chemist an important partner to the pharmacist/doctor when it comes to pharmaceutical research and innovation.
  • By mastering the main analytical methods, the medicinal chemistry specialist will be able to elucidate, control and confirm the identity of synthesized compounds, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, will have the complex training in biology and chemistry required to perform clinical and pharmaceutical laboratory analyses.
  • Management, marketing and administration of analytical laboratories complete the range of skills acquired by graduates of this program.

Occupational prospects

The medical chemistry profession offers multiple paths to professional fulfilment as:

  • Medicinal chemist specialist
  • Senior medicinal chemist
