G.E. Palade UMPhST of Targu Mures ranks 3rd among universities in Romania and 460th worldwide in the 2026 edition of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, with a total score of 7,160 points.

This is a significant result in a ranking that this year includes 2,016 universities from 110 countries, 18 of them from Romania, making it the largest edition to date of the ranking dedicated to assessing institutional sustainability.

UI GreenMetric was launched in 2010 and assesses how universities integrate sustainability into their infrastructure, campus operations and academic activity. In the 2026 edition, the assessment is structured around seven components: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water, transportation, education, and governance and digitalisation.

Beyond the position in a ranking, the result confirms a direction the university has consistently pursued: its development cannot be separated from responsibility towards resources, energy, mobility, infrastructure and the community.

A modern campus must perform academically, but it must also be sustainable, efficient and able to use technology to reduce its impact and improve how it operates.

For UMPhST, this direction continues through infrastructure, digitalisation, energy efficiency, mobility and sustainable management projects that are gradually turning the university into an integrated, smart campus.

3rd place in Romania and 460th in the world are, above all, a measure of this long-term effort.
