UMPhST – Korea University Guro Hospital Partnership

George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Târgu Mures and the prestigious Korea University Guro Hospital have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the beginning of a strategic partnership and collaboration to develop the University Hospital of Târgu Mureș—an innovative project in digital healthcare and the future of medicine.

The signing ceremony took place in Seoul, attended by high-ranking officials from both Romania and South Korea:

  • Prof. Dr Alexandru Rafila, Minister of Health of Romania
  • Dr Cha Kyoo-hong, Minister of Health of South Korea
  • Jung Yoon-soon, Vice Minister of Health of South Korea
  • Dr Hee-Jin Cheong, President of Korea University Guro Hospital
  • H.E. Cezar Armeanu, Romanian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, and other South Korean government representatives.

This partnership aims to establish a benchmark model for Romanian and European healthcare systems by sharing expertise, technology, and best practices in smart hospitals. The project will integrate elements of artificial intelligence, healthcare robotics, telemedicine, integrated digital infrastructure, and advanced professional training.

Together with one of the most advanced university hospitals in Asia, we strive to create a functional model of a smart hospital that prioritises patient-centric healthcare and maximises the potential of emerging technologies.

The G.E. Palade UMPhST – Korea University Guro Hospital partnership aligns with the University’s strategy of healthcare internationalisation and innovation, further strengthening UMPhST’s position as a regional leader in medical education, research, and digital health.
