”A new stage of engineering, a new face of engineering: Engineering+”
Engineering is a complex field of sciences. The process of defining it involves identifying the main directions of the world's evolution. Also, specialist analyses can lead to a change in the perception of engineering.
A few decades ago, engineering concerns were focused on a main element: the needs of society. But these changed from abstract concepts to a reality with much more complex issues in view of the newly emerging global challenges.
Our community is determined to find solutions to these complicated problems and redefine the notion of engineering as a creative force due to our increased conviction in the power of technology and science.
The bio-nano-information revolution of the last two decades has discovered new and unprecedented resources that can be used. The development in information technology and computer science has enabled engineering to tackle problems at levels which were unconceivable only a decade ago: the design of incredibly advanced materials, devices and processes, as well as the dramatic changes of engineering concerns and applicability.
The general vision of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology is based on four fundamental pillars:
- We explore the limitless potential of engineering based on the excellence of our people. We will continue to recruit and retain a remarkable and diverse community of students and academic staff. We maintain a perpetually high level of excellence that allows individuals to imagine, explore, innovate, communicate, and collaborate not only with each other but also with colleagues and industry experts.
- We continuously improve the study programmes and infrastructure. The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology fosters creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the lecture halls, laboratories, and other specific activities. Students are actively involved in every stage of their university training by promoting a passion for learning that will improve innovation in their professional development.
- We create solutions to global challenges. Due to constant research in fields such as information technology, biomedical interdisciplinary, quality engineering, and digital manufacturing, teaching staff and students generate innovations and inventions to improve living standards within the local community and at a more global level. We are adamant in our ambition to advance solutions to contemporary challenges that society is facing.
- Our goal is to create a catalyst for economic growth. We encourage the entrepreneurial activity of outstanding students and professors whose discoveries and activities stimulate economic growth in Mures County, Central Region, and at a national level.
The technical philosophy of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology is „Engineering +”. This is an innovative concept that promotes the ability of interdisciplinary interaction in a broad spectrum of educational and scientific research areas and also emphasizes the strong innovative contribution of engineering in sciences and occupational fields.
The new evolutionary context currently characterizing engineering can be characterized by Engineering + {other field}:
Engineering + medicine. The evolution in the medical field is constant and the most spectacular due to the progress made in healthcare and the construction of medical devices. Our faculty has established a strong relationship with the medical field through an integrative multidimensional approach to technical and medical education. This allowed the implementation of new study programmes: medical engineering, medical informatics, bioinformatics.
Engineering + informatics. This interdisciplinary relationship supports human services, creates continuously changing complex systems and makes life more interesting. The current global crisis underlines the importance of this combined approach.
Engineering + economy. This is a natural combination that facilitates entrepreneurship, in any of its many domains. It is consistent with exponential technologies, whose balance state is continuously disrupted and requires constant technical and managerial updates.
Engineering + has become a faculty standard as it is a transformative feature that helps us perform.
