The mission of the study program is the didactic and scientific training of young specialists for placement on the labor market in: translation services, to ensure multilingual professional communication, in consulting services and linguistic and cultural expertise, as well as in education. The main mission of the study program is to train specialists to support the services of linguistic and cultural expertise, research and education in relation to the current requirements of competitiveness and competence, promoting an educational offer in the continuous training system for human resources, on a regional and national level. The program’s mission is in line with industry-specific standards.

The study program aims to prepare students in becoming: translators, with Romanian and the studied modern languages as working languages, specialized proofreaders, language reviewers, specialists in managerial assistance and high-level secretarial support (assistant managers), secondary school teachers, assistants of research in linguistics, specialists in multilingual professional communication, specialists in the field of foreign languages studied.

The objectives and competency profile are meticulously designed in alignment with identified requirements in the labor market and the national framework of qualifications. A concise overview is presented below, with comprehensive details available in the curriculum's discipline sheets.

General Objectives

  • the knowledge of main linguistic concepts and theories relating to the phonetic, lexical and syntactic systems, the knowledge of phraseology specific to the A, B and C languages chosen;
  • the reinforcement and deepening of acquired language knowledge.

Specific Objectives

  • the acquisition of phraseology and terminology specific to professional contexts;
  • the preparation for professions specific to the study program;
  • the creation of texts specific to the fields of activity through modern means of processing and presentation;
  • the cultivation of a deep respect for differing opinions and experiences.

Professional Competencies

PC.1. The effective communication in at least two modern languages of high use (language B and language C), in a generous framework of professional and cultural contexts, by using specific registers and language variants in speech and writing (Competence level B2/C1 in both languages – see the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages);

PC.2. The adequate application of translation/retroversion and written and oral mediation techniques from languages B or C into language A in areas of broad and semi-specialized interest;

PC.3. The adequate application of the general techniques of documentation, search, classification and storage of information, the use of computer programs (electronic dictionaries, databases, etc.), the mastering of the basics of technical editing and proofreading of texts, the use of programs for technical editing of documents on the computer and of document archiving techniques;

PC.4. The management of relationships in various institutional contexts (institution, economic enterprise, NGO) and the use of general and semi-specialized knowledge in the professional fields of application of the specialization;

PC.5. The proper use of communication in multilingual professional situations of linguistic and cultural integration, negotiation and mediation.

Transversal Competencies

TC.1. The optimal management of professional tasks and their execution on time, with rigor, efficiency and responsibility; compliance with ethical rules specific to the field (e.g..: confidentiality);

TC.2. The application of team communication techniques; the development of empathetic capacities for interpersonal communication and the performance of specific roles in teamwork with the aim of making the group’s activity more efficient and resource-saving;

TC.3. The identification and use of effective learning methods and techniques; awareness of the external and internal motivations of continuous learning.

Note The package of modern languages B and C proposed as an object of study in this program are: English, French, German and Italian.

On admission, the candidate will opt for two of these modern languages, an option retained throughout the undergraduate years.
