The ENLACED English language course is live

This course represents the outcome of the Erasmus+ project ENLACED – Digitally-Enhanced Foreign Language Education for Active European Citizenship and Democratic Culture, a project focused on integrating democratic competences and digital challenges into university language education through the use of modern and interactive learning methods.

The project brings together partners from Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Cyprus and is coordinated by G.E. Palade UMPhST of Targu Mures, under the coordination of Associate Professor Dana Rus.

The course comprises 10 engaging units that combine C1-level English language learning with citizenship and democratic values through interactive digital breakout challenges:

  • Speak freely? – freedom of speech and its limits
  • Truth check – fake news and media literacy
  • Join in – civic engagement and youth participation
  • Us and them – stereotypes, identity, and inclusion
  • Power and protest – democracy, activism, and dissent
  • Digital you – online identity and privacy
  • Green talks – environmental citizenship
  • Respect rules – law, justice, and responsibility
  • Worlds collide – intercultural communication and conflict
  • Speak up – public speaking, argumentation, and civic debate

Why digital breakout challenges? Each unit is built around an immersive challenge-based scenario that requires students to solve real-world democratic dilemmas whilst developing their English language competence. Students work through engaging reading, listening, speaking, and writing tasks, unlock content through gamified checkpoints, and create tangible outputs such as podcasts, campaign materials, research reports, and presentations.

For the teachers, the platform provides access to an interactive dashboard to track individual student progress, create separate groups for different classes, and monitor writing task submissions seamlessly.
