Description

The Multimodal Translation master’s programme, a continuation of initial training in Applied Modern Languages, aims to provide in-depth knowledge of two study languages (chosen from English, French, Italian, or German) and the specialised registers within these linguistic areas. The programme facilitates a thorough understanding of source texts, providing students with the foundations for a conscious and accurate translation process tailored to the characteristics of the source text. In addition to these two languages, students select a third language from the same offer, which is not part of their primary specialisation. The main objective is to enable students to develop a range of competencies aligned with professional realities in the labour market, taking into account recent developments in the field.

Through its broad range of translational approaches, the programme also seeks to prepare students for potential doctoral research. Master’s students have the opportunity to broaden their skills through Erasmus mobility programmes.

The theoretical knowledge gained during the programme is put into practice through internships in various institutions and companies. Additionally, students participate in collaborative translation projects, culminating in publications by University Press.

Professional competences

  • defining and describing socio-cultural phenomena and specialised registers from a translation studies perspective
  • interpreting texts in languages A, B, and C using argumentative, rhetorical, and stylistic strategies
  • producing translations and back-translations from/to languages A, B, and C, using a wide lexical range and an appropriate stylistic register
  • mastering the effective use of translation software, tools, and search engines
  • conducting research projects and programmes based on advanced knowledge of grammatical, lexical, and idiomatic structures of the languages.

 

Transversal competences

  • collecting, managing, and directing information specific to the completion of complex tasks in context (designing, receiving, transmitting, processing, and storing information in specialised documents)
  • coordinating effective teamwork techniques within a multidisciplinary team, appropriate to different hierarchical levels.
  • objectively self-assessing continuous professional development needs and making rational choices regarding training methods to ensure employability and adaptability to labour market requirements.
