Description

The English taught Medicine Program within the Faculty of Medicine in English at UMFST “G.E. Palade” Târgu Mureș, in accordance with the institution’s commitment, promotes internationalization, multiculturalism, educational excellence, and academic performance in training competitive graduates capable of integrating into the labor market of European and non-European healthcare systems.

In this regard, at UMFST, the Faculty of Medicine in English provides the necessary conditions for carrying out the teaching activities related to the Medicine study program, taught in English, at the campuses in Târgu Mureș (MER) and Hamburg (MEH-UMCH).

The study program was accredited by ARACIS in 2022 and currently offers an annual enrollment capacity of 150 students per year. The program has been internationally accredited by IAAR since 2023.

Other details

  • To train specialists in the field of medicine who are able to apply concepts, principles, methods, and rules of good practice across various medical specialties, and to develop the skills necessary to apply all the knowledge they have acquired.
  • To train specialists capable of preventing, diagnosing, and treating patients using the most advanced and modern forms of treatment, while respecting medical ethics.
  • To ensure a solid foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the functioning of the human body;
  • To provide a modular educational system built on the logical accumulation of medical knowledge, from fundamental medicine to clinical medicine;
  • To develop the skills necessary for interdisciplinary collaboration;
  • To prepare graduates for the completion and deepening of their knowledge through master’s, doctoral, and continuing professional development programs.

 

Professional competences

  • Identifying the state of ill-health and accurately diagnosing the condition(s).
  • Preparing and applying an adequate treatment plan for the identified condition(s).
  • Assessing correctly the risk of disease or the context of the occurrence of the individual/collective disease, followed by the selection and implementation of adequate prophylactic measures.
  • Approaching the health/ill issues from the point of view of the characteristics of the community, in direct relation with the social. economic and/or cultural conditions of the respective community.
  • Initialing and performing specific scientific research and/or training activity in the respective domain of competence.
  • Performing efficiently and skillfully the managerial tasks required by certain professional positions.

 

Transverse Competences

  • Identifying the objectives to be fulfilled, the available resources, the terms of completion, the work stages, the timeframe, the related deadlines and the inherent risks.
  • Identifying the roles and responsibilities in a pluridisciplinary team and applying efficient work and relation techniques within the team and in the relation with patients.
  • Using the information and communication resources efficiently as well as those for assisted professional development (web portals, specialized software, application data base, on line courses, etc.) both in Romanian and in an international language.

 

The six-year English-Taught Medicine program concludes with the final graduation examination, upon which graduates are awarded the title of Medical Doctor (MD) and receive a bachelor’s degree diploma recognized within the European Union.

As a result, graduates may pursue a medical career in public or private hospitals, an academic career, or a research career. At the same time, they may combine these paths, becoming well-rounded professionals in the medical field.
