G.E. Palade UMPhST of Targu Mures announces the completion of the Erasmus+ project ENLACED – “Digitally-Enhanced Foreign Language Education for Active European Citizenship and Democratic Culture” (project code: 2024-1-RO01-KA220-HED-000249951), implemented between 2024 and 2026 by an international partnership of higher education institutions and organisations from Romania, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Ukraine.

The project’s closing event will take place on 29 September 2026 in the Aula Magna and will bring together representatives of the project partners, teaching staff and students.

Coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dana Rus, PhD, the project aimed to modernise foreign language teaching in higher education and to develop students’ competences for active European citizenship and democratic culture.

Over the two years of implementation, the project partners – G.E. Palade UMPhST of Targu Mures, the University of Nicosia, the University of National and World Economy in Sofia, Sumy State University and TETRA Solutions Ltd. – developed digital learning programmes for five languages: English, Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek and Ukrainian.

The project outcomes include:

• 50 digital learning units, 10 for each language;
• the update of more than 8 curricula;
• 58 teaching staff trained;
• 298 students involved in training activities;
• 465 respondents to research and evaluation activities;
• 5 focus groups organised;
• learning activities equivalent to 3 ECTS/75 hours of study;
• more than 23,900 page views on the project website.

One of the main outcomes is the English language course comprising 10 interactive units that combine C1-level English learning with education for citizenship and democratic values through digital breakout challenges.

ENLACED created a common framework for exchanging experience and developing new approaches to foreign language teaching. The project focused on the use of technology in education and on integrating topics related to European citizenship, civic participation and democratic culture into the learning process.

With the end of the implementation period, the results and resources developed within the project remain available to students, teaching staff and anyone interested in digital language education, and can be accessed at www.enlaced.eu.
